Detailed Getting Started Guide
Follow this comprehensive guide to set up your Trezor hardware wallet securely.
Step 1: Choose Your Device
Trezor comes in two models: Trezor One and Trezor Model T. Both provide military-grade security with slightly different features.
- Trezor One: Entry-level hardware wallet, perfect for beginners
- Trezor Model T: Advanced features with touchscreen interface
Step 2: Unbox and Verify
Check the hologram on the packaging. This ensures your device hasn't been tampered with.
Verify the device PIN on the display matches the one in your documentation. Never trust external sources for verification.
Step 3: Download Trezor Suite
Visit https://suite.trezor.io and download the official Trezor Suite application for your operating system.
- Windows (7 and later)
- macOS (10.12 and later)
- Linux (various distributions)
Step 4: Connect Your Device
Use the provided USB cable to connect your Trezor to your computer. Your device will light up and display a PIN pad.
Launch Trezor Suite. It will automatically detect your device and guide you through the setup process.
Step 5: Set Up Your PIN
Create a strong PIN code (up to 9 digits). This PIN protects your device from physical theft.
Enter your PIN on the device display (not your computer keyboard) to prevent keyloggers from capturing it.
Step 6: Write Down Recovery Seed
Your device will display a 24-word recovery seed. This is crucial - write it down on paper and store it safely.
⚠️ Critical Security Warning
Never share your recovery seed with anyone. Never enter it on your computer. Only use it to recover your wallet if your device is lost.
Step 7: Verify Your Seed
Trezor Suite will ask you to verify your recovery seed by selecting words from your list.
This verification ensures you've written down the seed correctly. Proceed carefully.
Step 8: Create Optional Passphrase
Add an optional passphrase (25th word) for additional security. This creates a completely different wallet if changed.
Skip this if you're a beginner, but advanced users should consider it.
Step 9: Add Accounts
After setup, you can add accounts for different cryptocurrencies in Trezor Suite.
- Create a Bitcoin account
- Create an Ethereum account
- Add accounts for other cryptocurrencies you own
Step 10: Receive Your First Crypto
Click on any account to view its receive address. Share this address to receive cryptocurrency.
Verify the address on your Trezor device before sending large amounts.
